This week, the Secretary of State for Defence, Gavin Williamson MP, made the announcement for that all of the new Type 26 Frigates will be based at Devonport when they come into service. I had the privilege of joining the Secretary of State onboard HMS Montrose as he made the announcement on Monday.

The campaign to see the future of Devonport Naval Base secured is something I've been working on with colleagues for at least a decade and I wholeheartedly welcome this decision. This week's announcement is the most significant for Plymouth's military future in a generation.
