The constituency is in one of the most beautiful parts of England - perhaps second to none in its physical appearance.

It spans:

• parts of the Unitary authority of Plymouth
• the districts of West Devon and South Hams
• Devon County Council

Apart from the Plymouth suburbs of Plympton and Plymstock, the largest town is Ivybridge, where there is a large amount of residential and some light industrial development.

There is a strong tradition of Conservative Party membership and elected representatives. In 2019, Gary received 62.4% of the vote share up 2.5% from 2017.
